If the stunning artwork and images in our calendars weren’t enough to be excited about, consider the symbology, context, and information-laden within each of these classic paintings. The Blue Mound Graphics calendar development team handpicks each image. Our crew focuses on the beauty of the image, its relevance to scripture and theme, as well as context.
Our Traditional Catholic Art calendar style features a rotating selection of Old Masters’ artwork. These works of art depict important biblical events and representations in dazzling color and masterful design. The cover of our 2024 Catholic Art calendar displays one of the most essential depictions in the Catholic faith, the Virgin Mary and her child, Jesus Christ.
The image above is Madonna and Child With Saints, completed by Italian painter Giovanni Battista Cima de Conegliano circa 1515. In this image, Mary sits on a throne with baby Jesus while some of history’s most important saints pay tribute.
From left to right, those shown in Conegliano’s oil painting are St. Sebastian, St. Francis, John the Baptist, Mary and Child, St. Jerome, an unidentified woman, and St. Anthony of Padua.
The two people kneeling before Mary in the painting are thought to be the donors who commissioned the work to be made, although their identities are not known.
The painting is currently displayed at The Fogg Art Museum, part of Harvard University’s Harvard Art Museums in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Other works in the 2024 Traditional Art calendar depict images of biblical stories, including Mary’s Annunciation, the resurrection of Lazarus, and the birth of Jesus.
